Yes it was boxing day we were unsure how things would shape up in the outback but we got lucky seeing the information center open. It's a great place to start your day at Broken Hill. The girls behind the counter are friendly and ready to answer all your queries. Next door to the center is Gloria jeans. Discussing rest of the day and day after over a coffee, we were ready and knew which places could be covered during the festive holidays.

Our next stop was the Broken Hill railway and historical museum. Great place to start your day. We met Ron Carter , caretaker and volunteer worker at the museum. Superb guy and a true legend. Been working with railways for a long time and then moved into mining. He will answer any questions you have after the tour of the museum.

We took a short drive to see the Afghani mosque which is made from iron sheets painted red. A little difficult to trace from the main road as it lies behind a fence. Built by afghan camel campers in the 1800’s. wow! Mostly shut down - but some early history.
As most of the art galleries in the city were shut we took the thrilling route towards a village that’s always been in the books of all Mad Max 2 fans and a lot of other movies. Yes it was SILVERTON. Straight drive from Broken hill , wait for the welcome sign its very fancy.

Our first stop there was the silverton gaol / jail museum. The history in that gaol converted museum is mindblowing. Its too much to register, requires a lot of reading. The whole museum is fantastic!! Gives you an entire picture of once wealthy and flourishing Broken Hill and Silverton. You can take pictures of the neighboring buildings , giving you a total outback thrill.

Unconventional, quirky, witty and with so much character, the iconic pub of Silverton is where we headed next for a crisp lager and lunch.

The pub is so cool. So many stories associated to it, be it movies, history, architecture. A must visit in that area. They have a few tap beers ( iron jack being the best) but heaps more bottle beers.

The food is classic pub grubs in the outback setup. It was quiet busy thou , bikers, travellers, locals, families like everyone was there for some reason which was experiencing the real outback. They also provide accommodation and live music performances.

Follow them on facebook for updates.
Mad Max museum 2 is passion at its best. The movie Mad Max 2 was shot in and around Broken Hill, so for the fans it’s a must visit and for visitors it’s a miss not kinda deal. very interesting facts and figures lie inside the gallery which are worth a gaze around. Adrian Bennet the man behind this one of a kind place is a funny and entertaining person to bump into. He would love to share his insights about the movie.

A drive towards mundi mundi lookout was satisfactory.

But if you want to be adventurous just jump into one of those 4wd tracks off the road and you will be in for a fun time.

So many roos hiding under little trees ( actually caught a few of em having a good siesta). The view is amazing plus the drive is bit more challenging.
Head back the same way to broken hill. Don’t forget to tune into 2dry fm with a cold brew sitting in your cottage patio watching the sun go down.
For the night we have booked ourselves into the star show by the team of Outback Astronomy. It’s a 5 km drive away from the city. The show started at 9:30 pm for 60 mins. It’s a great outback show as the sky in the night is incredible . if you have spare time do go for this show, its spectacular - check out the Southern Cross!
