Springton- Barossa - Clare Valley
Next day we had a lot in mind, it was going to be an eventful day. Lovely supplies at the cottage for a great breakfast. I give this cottage 5 stars!

After breakfast we visited the Herbig tree in Springton - next to our cottage. This hollow tree trunk provided a 'home' for Friedrich and Caroline Herbigand and two of their 16 children until 1860 at Springton. He was too poor to afford a rent. Google more!

When you are near Barossa what do you do first?? Yes, its tasting some good wines. There are heaps of vineyards , its like a cousin to Nappa valley. We hit Tanunda which was the main town center for the valley. Here the information centre is great. They will provide you details based on the type of wine drinker one is which would narrow down the options unless you want to go all the way and taste each one of them. There are a couple of German bakeries in the area too.

We choose a few vineyards and wineries and below are some descriptions.
ROCKFORD WINES
Great boutique winery inside a heritage Bavarian style building. The tasting is free , check timings before . Drive up till the winery is nice too. Their Alicante Bouchet is a red that is best had 'chilled'! Check out their website to know their grapes. Among the whites the Reisling was awesome.

SEPPLETSFIELDS
This winery is a must visit!! There is wine, food, architecture, art, design and art studios. The drive is fantastic showcasing huge palm trees. This is a winery with lost of visitors.

We drove past many wineries like Jacobs Creek, Yalumba, Bethany wines. You can visit small towns Bethany and Angaston. A day trip to Clare valley is also another great option.
We took the route towards Maggie beers farm shop. It’s a relaxed farm experience , Good to go with kids as there are a lot of different birds. The store is good and affordable. Look out for cute turtles in the lake outside the shop.

We bought a few jams and pate. You can taste all you want - james, relish, pate, chutneys, dips and more. The restaurant was really packed! You will not miss the majestic peacock there!

Next destination was “ whispering wall", we were excited to visit the place but it didn’t work out for us because the council holidays effected the opening hours. When we reached the location. all the gates were locked. So a tip , ask at the information center or call before going.
We drove back to Springton and on our way had a nice cheeky chicken schnitty roll at a bakery in Williamstown. Fantastic!! It was time to say goodbye to Springton and Barossa. But what a fabulous stay. Perfect for wine lovers!
